Close Up Foundation Summer Program - WASHINGTON, D.C.

Spend a week this summer “Close UP” in Washington, DC! Student programs are still open for registration!

Students will:

  • Be part of the sights and sounds of our nation’s capital.
  • Engage in discussions about current events and issues relevant to them!
  • Make new friends from around the country.
  • See Congress at work.
  • Interact with key policy officials and DC insiders.
  • Learn how to make a difference in their community!


The Close Up Foundation is a nonprofit organization that seeks to inspire young people to get involved.  Throughout the year, Close Up hosts a variety of educational programs for students in Washington, DC and our instructors use the city as a living classroom. Close Up Programs grant students the access to be part of the action!  College Credit* is available for participation in this week-long government study visit!

Kyrene School District is offering classes for children and youth - Pre-K to Teens - in their Summer Academy! Children do not have to attend school in the Kyrene District to participate in the Summer Academy.  Programs range from Drawing classes to Hip-Hop Dance classes!

Camp Audubon - SOUTH PHOENIX

 


The Nina Mason Pulliam Rio Salado Audubon Center is offering four, hands-on sessions, each one jam-packed with unique field experiences. Sessions are Monday through Friday from 8 am to 1 pm. The camp experience is best suited to ages 8 to 12 and class size is limited so sign up soon! Sessions are as follows:

1: June 21-25, Beginning with Birds
2: June 28-July 2, Mysterious Mammals
3: July 12-16, Conservation Crusaders
4: July 19-23, Wet and Wild Arizona Waters

Valley Youth Theatre, A Magical Theatrical Summer Camp 2010 – PHOENIX

 

Valley Youth Theatre's Education Department provides two types of fun-filled educational camps.  Summer Camp is a four week long camp that includes a final day performance. 

ALL STAR SUMMER PLAYHOUSE
Ages 5-6
Session 1: June 7-July 1, 9am-Noon, Session 2: July 12-August 5, 9am-Noon
In this camp, our young campers learn theatre basics through lively games and activities.  Each week they will participate in classes in acting, music, and dance as well as work together to produce a musical theatre showcase to be performed for friends and family.

Tuition: $300.00, before care is available from 8:00am-9:00am for an extra $25 per week


MUSICAL THEATRE SUMMER WORKSHOP
Ages 7-17
Session 1: June 7 - July 2 9am-3:00pm, Session 2: July 12 - August 6 9am-3:00pm
In this camp, students participate in daily classes in the three disciplines of musical theatre: acting, dance, and music as well as participate in a production to be showcased at the end of the session.  This camp is focused on giving students a well-rounded performing arts education in addition to experience in the audition process, rehearsal technique, ensemble building, and performance.

Tuition: $630.00, before care is available from 8:00am-9:00am for an extra $25 per week & after care is available from 3:00pm-6:00pm for $75 per week – Both before and after care is $85 per week.

Phoenix Parks and Recreation Full-Day Summer Programs - PHOENIX

The Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department is offering fun, affordable full-day recreation programs at 12 locations this summer to help parents keep their kids active, engaged and safe over the break. Community centers also are offering a full schedule of general-interest classes and programs for people of all ages to get active, learn new skills and have fun.

 

Exact prices, dates, times and other details in the full-day recreation programs vary from center to center, however most are for kids ages 6 up to 12 and run from early June through July. Prices range from $280 to $350 for the seven-to-eight weeks. Some centers offer shorter duration program options at a reduced price. Many centers also are offering programs for teens.

Registration for the summer session opens May 1 at 10:30 a.m. Participants can register online with any major credit card or register in-person at any department community center or administrative office. Eastlake Park Community Center is excited to bring an affordable, fun-filled, full day summer recreation program. Camp Jefferson is open for youths 6-12 years old and will provide physical activities, combined with arts & crafts and educational fun all in a supervised environment.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix Summer Day Camps – PHOENIX

While offering a wide-variety of fun, engaging activities, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix Summer Day Camps provide quality, affordable programs that meet the needs of families in a challenging economy. Summer Camp programs are open five days per week (hours vary by location). Fees for 2-3 week session are just $100-$150 per child, with a sliding scale available for families who demonstrate economic need.

Teens ages 12-14 - have you ever wondered what it would be like to help research a cure for cancer, look at cells through a high powered microscope or watch doctors at work? Phoenix Public Libraries Host Reading Level Screenings for Students – PHOENIX

 

Phoenix Public Library offers free monthly reading level screenings for children in 1st through 3rd grades. 

 

Screenings take place through July from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm at the following libraries:

Musical Instrument Museum’s Summer Drumming Workshop Series – SCOTTSDALE

 

 

MIM, together with Ear Candy Charity and the Arizona Rhythm Connection, presents “Build a Rhythm: Making Drums from Around the World”—four drumming workshops on July 3, 10, 17, and 24, 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. each day at MIM, with a final concert on July 31 at the MIM Music Theater.

 

These exciting workshops offer parents/caregivers and children aged 8–11, working as a team, the chance to learn about a drum from a different country every Saturday in July, and to construct that drum and learn to play it! Visits to MIM exhibits are included as part of these hands-on workshops, allowing participants to learn more about the cultures that the drums come from.

 

The parent/caregiver and children can sign up for each workshop individually or for all four. The fee per participant is $35 per workshop. One parent/caregiver can register up to two children per workshop.

Parents/caregivers who register for all four workshops will receive a discount of $5 per participant per workshop. There is limited availability for each workshop, so sign up now!

 

The series will culminate on July 31 with a concert for family and friends, so that the children can demonstrate the instruments they made and the rhythms they learned.

 

Each participating child will receive a limited number of free concert passes to distribute to family and friends; admission tickets to the museum will be available for purchase following the show.

Inclusion Summer Day Camp - TUCSON & MARANA

Marana Parks and Recreation Department's Inclusion Summer Day Camp will be held at Coyote Trail Elementary School in Tucson this summer.  Camp details are as follows:

 

 8 week camp 

  • No out of pocket cost for snacks
  • Participants must pack a sack lunch, snack and water bottle
  • Focuses on the development of leisure activity skills, social interaction skills, appropriate behavioral choices, utilization of community resources, and provision of a safe, fun and self enhancing environment for children ages 6-19 years old.

Tanque Verde Extended Care Program’s Summer Fun 2010 will have activities for children and youth ages 5-14 that foster skills and self-development.  Weekly themes and the Games, Science, Art, Drama, Field trips and Community Service projects offer opportunities to work collaboratively in large and small groups and use reasoning skills. Themes include a wide variety of topics from Eurasian Invasion, Team Invention to Dancing thru the Decades.

 

June 1-July 30 from 7 am – 6 pm

$140 per week/$35 per day/$20 for 4 hours or less

Starting June 2, 2010 Roboclub is organizing a series of two-day LEGO NXT (Mindstorms) workshops.

Southwest Conservation Corps - TUCSON

The Southwest Conservation Corps is looking for young adults - Grades 6-12 - to participate in service-learning programs during the summer months. Programs engage students in community-based service-learning projects that are intensive, structured, supervised, and designed to produce identifiable improvements to the community.
